How does Reductil work?

Reductil works by making your brain tell you that you are full and have had enough to eat, which means you will eat less and not give in to hungers pangs and cravings when you are eating sensibly. But how does it do that? It has nothing to do with your stomach or digestive system; it works entirely on the brain and specifically on the natural chemical messengers, called neurotransmitters, in the brain.

Reductil’s active ingredient is called sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate, which is usually shortened to just sibutramine. This is a member of a newly-developed group of drug therapies called SNRIs, and Reductil is the first orally administered example to be used for the successful treatment of weight loss and management in overweight people. Sibutramine works on the neurotransmitters in the brain by affecting the absorption rate of serotonin and noradrenalin.

It all sounds very complicated, but in fact it is quite simple. These two neurotransmitters, serotonin and noradrenalin, are responsible for passing messages between nerve cells in the brain, and are associated with feelings of well-being and are responsible for moderating mood. Sibutramine’s blocking action means that there are more of these molecules freely moving around the nerve cells, which has the effect of making your brain feel satisfied and suppressing appetite. So after eating your sensible, healthy meal, you don’t still feel hungry and wish for second helpings, or crave high-fat snacks. A person taking Reductil will therefore consume less calories overall than a dieter who isn’t taking Reductil therefore aiding weight loss.

But there is one other effect of Reductil that works in the favour of the user wishing to lose weight – Reductil has also been shown to act on the metabolic rate. Usually, when a person embarks on a reduced calorie diet regime, the body will quickly adjust to the fewer calorie levels and slow down the metabolic rate to compensate. This is one reason why people can struggle to lose weight by dieting alone.

Reductil actually prevents this fall in the Basal Metabolic Rate, so the user is able to burn more energy in their system and benefit more from the entire weight loss programme. Exercise helps even more, by increasing the rate of energy consumption in the body and therefore also increasing the BMR.

So the positive effect of Reductil on the user is in fact two-fold, and both results will greatly assist the committed dieter to shed unwanted fat and maintain that loss over time.
